The Tanjore Quartet, also known as Thanjai Naalvar, consisted of four brothers: Chinnayya, Ponnayya, Sivanandam, and Vadivelu. They are remembered as some of the most important figures in the shaping of the Bharatanatyam recital format
K. P. Kittappa Pillai
K. P. Kittappa Pillai was one of the great inheritors and torchbearers of the Tanjavur lineage. A respected guru, nattuvanar, composer, and dance master, he was known for his command over nattuvangam, rhythm, abhinaya, and traditional compositions.
Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy
Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy is one of the most respected names in Bharatanatyam. An eminent artiste, teacher, scholar, choreographer, and institution-builder, she has carried the art form with grace, depth, and dignity across India and the world.
Vidwan Madurai N. Krishnan
The musical foundation of this lineage is also enriched by the contribution of Vidwan Madurai N. Krishnan, a highly respected Carnatic musician, composer, and scholar. Known for his mastery over vocal music, lyrics, and composition, he was regarded as a complete musician.
