Bringing Indian Classical Dance to Germering Feiert

There are some moments that stay with us long after the music fades, the costumes are folded away, and the stage lights are turned off. Performing at Germering Feiert was one such moment for us at Shree Shiva Silambam, Germering.

As an Indian classical dance school, every performance carries a deeper meaning. It is not only about presenting choreography or showcasing talent, its about carrying a tradition across borders, across generations, and across hearts. Bharatanatyam is an ancient art form rooted in devotion, rhythm, storytelling, discipline, and grace. To bring this art to a community festival in Germering felt truly special.

For many of our young dancers, this was more than just a stage performance. It was a moment of courage. It was the joy of wearing a traditional costume, listening to the bells on their feet, standing together as a group, and offering something beautiful from Indian classical tradition to the wider community.

For children growing up away from India, such moments are precious. They learn that their heritage is not something to keep quietly in the background. It is something they can celebrate, share, and feel proud of. It showed them that they can belong fully here while still staying connected to their roots.

As a teacher, it was a deeply emotional experience to watch my students stand on stage with confidence. Behind those few minutes of performance were weeks of practice, corrections, repetition, excitement, nervousness, and determination. Each child brought their own innocence and sincerity to the stage. Seeing them experience the joy of performing for the community was truly beautiful.

What touched us most was the warmth of the audience.

Even when the weather was not on our side, people gathered, stayed, watched, encouraged, and appreciated. That meant more than words can express. To see so many people receive Indian classical dance with openness and affection was deeply moving. Every clap, every smile, and every kind message after the performance reminded us that art truly has no borders. A mudra, a rhythm, a graceful movement, a story told through the eyes, these can speak even when the language is unfamiliar.

Germering Feiert is a celebration of community and cultural exchange, and being part of it allowed us to bring a small piece of India into that shared space. The performance was not just for an Indian audience. We were performing for families, neighbours, friends, and people from many different backgrounds. That made the experience even more meaningful.

For Shree Shiva Silambam, Germering Feiert was not just an event. It was a reminder of why we do what we do.

We teach Bharatanatyam not only as a dance form, but as a living tradition. Through every class and every performance, we hope to pass on rhythm, expression, discipline, devotion, and cultural pride. We hope our students grow not only as dancers, but as confident children who know the beauty of where they come from.

We are deeply grateful to the organisers of Germering Feiert, for creating oppurtunities, where culture isnot just preserved, but shared joyfully. A huge shoutout to the parents, families, friends, and community members who supported us, encouraged the children, and received our performance with so much love.

Thank you, Germering, for your warmth, your love, and your support.

With gratitude,

Daya Santoshi Venkataraman
